Hey, Tom Rosica, is this the "Francis Effect" you wanted?

Thomas J. Rosica, the erstwhile papal spokesman, executive producer or the little watched Salt + Light Television and a member of the rapidly declining, Basilian Congregation in Toronto, produced a video called The Francis Effect.

I wonder if this is the Francis Effect that our friend Tommy counted on?

The current pontificate has coincided with a worldwide decline in major seminary enrollments. After many years of small but steady annual increases in the number of major seminarians during the reigns of John Paul II and Benedict XVI, the numbers slightly dipped in 2012 then went down more steeply in 2013 and 2014. To be more precise: at the end of 2011 there were 120,616 major seminarians. This went down to 120,051 by end of 2012, 118,251 by end of 2013, and 116,319 by end of 2014 (the latest for which statistics are available). If the experience of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires is any indication, and if Francis manages to impose something of his vision on the actual process of priestly formation all over the world, we are convinced that we will see a collapse in vocations far greater than that which has already transpired in the first years of his pontificate.

Down nearly 4,000!

Great work Tom.

Stupendous work George.

Can't have too many rigid seminarians now, can we?

Appeal for financial sponsorship for Seminarian

Friends, with two donations this morning of $3,200.00 we are nearing our goal of $10,000 but still short by $3675

Could you spare $10, $20 or $50 or $100 to help us fund this man's seminary education for the rest of this year?

The end of the year is coming and your tax receipt is waiting. Thank you and God bless you. Vox

A few months ago, the readers of this blog raised over $8000.00 to build a house for a Deacon's impoverished parents in India. He will be ordained to the priesthood on December 30 for the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in India.

I am writing this post with another appeal for a Abbé Joseph Heppelle, a seminarian from the Archdiocese of Toronto studying at the Seminary of St. Philip Neri in Gricigliano, Tuscany, Italy. This is the main seminary of the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest.

I've know Abbé Heppelle for a number of years and his family. He is the eldest of eight home-schooled musically-gifted children. He is now an Acolyte and will, God-willing, be ordained to the Subdiaconate next spring.

I am reprinting below an appeal from the Toronto Traditional Mass Society - UNA VOCE TORONTO. If you are able to send financial support, there is an online charity called CanadaHelps that will receive the donation and provide you with a Canadian charitable tax receipt.

You can also donate directly by mailing a donation to:

Toronto Traditional Mass Society-Una Voce Toronto
3701 Lakeshore Boulevard West
STATION LONG BRANCH
P.O. Box 48577
Toronto, Ontario M8W 4Y6

A tax-receipt will be issued in that case by the Society.

Thank you for your consideration.

Seminarian Fundraising Campaign for Abbé Joseph Heppelle

The Toronto Traditional Mass Society - Una Voce Toronto is established to promote the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, (the Traditional Catholic Latin Mass) and Gregorian chant in the Archdiocese of Toronto.

Abbé Joseph Heppelle is the eldest of eight from a home-schooled family here in the Archdiocese. He grew up serving and singing the chant for the Traditional Roman Liturgy. He is studying for the Catholic priesthood at the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest Seminary of St. Philip Neri in Gricigliano, Italy. Abbé Heppelle is now an Acolyte and will, God-willing, be ordained to the Subdiaconate in the spring of 2016.

This is the third year now that we have assisted in fundraising for Abbé Heppelle. Seminary cost is expensive as you can imagine and challenging in that all his classes are in French and Italian.

Please give consideration to donating for this young-man's education as he prepares to serve Jesus Christ, Sovereign Priest and His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church and the community of faithful which belong to Her.

Donations through CanadaHelps are tax-deductible and you will be receipted directly by them. For a small fee, they send the funds on to us (saving us the paperwork) and we will send 100% of the funds to Abbé Heppelle.

You may visit our web page at www.unavocetoronto.com or write us directly at unavocetoronto@gmail.com to arrange a donation directly to the Toronto Traditional Mass Society with 100% sent to him with a tax-receipt provided directly by us.

May God bless you and thank you

Help a Seminarian!

Hello Friends,

I would like to put out this appeal for Mr. Michael Hayes. I know Michael and can vouch for him. He is studying for the Catholic priesthood for the Ukrainian Rite of the Catholic Church in Canada.

Michael writes below his appeal.

Can Vox readers put him over the top?

God bless you.

Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

My name is Michael Hayes. After several years of discernment, I entered seminary last year for the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canada. I am preparing to enter my second year of theological studies in September, 2015.

In order to continue with my seminary formation, I will require the financial support of others. My diocese will cover room, board, and food; I pay for tuition, academic fees, and personal expenses. While I will be working during the summer, I will not make enough money to cover my costs for the next academic year. As a seminarian, I am not permitted to work during the academic year.

I am trying to raise approximately $8,500 to cover the costs of the year. The breakdown is as follows:

University tuition and fees (Summer, 2015): ~$700
University tuition (Fall-Winter, 2015-16): ~$5,100
Incidental fees (Fall-Winter, 2015-16): ~$700
Books: ~$500
Personal expenses: ~$1,500

Any donation no matter how large will be greatly appreciated. Since this is a personal fundraising campaign, I am not able to issue tax receipts. Please know that I pray for all of my benefactors by name daily; I mean it when I tell you that you are in my prayers!

Thank you, and God bless!

On behalf of Abbe Joseph, (Seminarian JH), Thank you!

Dear Friends,

A few months ago, I launched a fundraising campaign here for a young man from the rural north of the Archdiocese of Toronto studying for the priesthood in Italy. Abbe Joseph H., is at the Institute of Christ the King in Griciliano, Italy and comes from a wonderful home-schooled family.

Please let me take this opportunity on his behalf to say "thank you and God bless you."

Your generosity has been greatly appreciated. You sent cheques directly to the Toronto Traditional Mass Society on his behalf and donated through CanadaHelps. The goal was met and even yesterday, more funds came in.

Abbe Joseph's needs have been met for this year and he has a nest egg to begin next year.

Please know that on a daily basis, he offers Mass and prayers for all of his benefactors.

May God bless you.
